December Book Club “Can’t Even: How Millenials Became the Burnout Generation”

This book club is open to anyone who wants to participate and is a great option for those who need a structured timeline and accountability to make time for reading. Each month, we read one book. Participants can enroll for the full year or month by month, depending on their schedule and interests. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own copy of the book.

We meet virtually on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM (CST) and participants will engage in a facilitated discussion of key themes, identify personal action steps, and receive a one-page summary of the book with specific takeaways.

We are taking November off and will return in December with “Can’t Even: How Millenials Became the Burnout Generation” by Anne Helen Petersen. While burnout may seem like the default setting for the modern era, in Can’t Even, BuzzFeed culture writer and former academic Anne Helen Petersen argues that burnout is a definitional condition for the millennial generation, born out of distrust in the institutions that have failed us, the unrealistic expectations of the modern workplace, and a sharp uptick in anxiety and hopelessness exacerbated by the constant pressure to “perform” our lives online.
